THE PROGRAM
All classes will be taught by George Vithoulkas and Erik Van Woensel who will teach the first two hours. The week will consist of live and video cases, with analysis and theory based on George’s 40 yrs experience. The first day will start at 10 am with registration from 9am. The rest of the days are planned to begin at 9.30 am and continue until 1 pm when we break for the afternoon until 5.30 pm when we continue until 8.30 pm. Video cases are also shown in the afternoons before live follow-ups the next day, for those not familiar with the case. Please note this schedule may change.
THE GROUP
The International group is taught by George in English, and will consist of students from all round the world. The class is usually booked to capacity (130), (we expect this year’s UK group to fill up quickly - so book early!). The experience of the group usually varies between 1 and 20 years!
TRAVEL TO GREECE FROM UK
There are no direct flights to Alonissos – only to the neighbouring island Skiathos.
Skiathos: There are many direct flights to Skiathos. Charter/holiday flights operate from Gatwick and Manchester However they only travel on weekdays. So in order not to miss any of the course (if you are only staying one week) you need to find a flight on a Monday or Tuesday. Charters usually fly from Gatwick on Tuesdays. This gives you time to catch a boat to Alonissos in the afternoon/evening or stay over and catch a boat the next morning. The course will start on Wednesday morning. If you travel for a two-week period there is no problem as you can fit the course week in the middle. Or:
Athens: On weekdays and weekends you can get cheap flights, charters or scheduled flights to Athens and then either an internal domestic flight (Olympic) to Skiathos (this departs from the same airport and can be booked from the UK - however this flight was not available in 2010 so you need to check if this will run in 2011) or, via a taxi or metro/bus from the airport, take an air-conditioned coach from Alkyon Travel Office, Academia 97, central Athens - to Ag. Konstantinos ( a port on the mainland east coast – this takes about 2 hrs) and then a hydrofoil flying dolphin or FlyingCat service to Alonissos – 2 hrs. This way, you can travel, for instance Sunday to Sunday or Monday to Monday. Call Alkyon Travel for details and/or to book : 0030 210 384 3220. or 0030 210 3832545. e-mail: athens@alkyontravel.com. They are very helpful. The ferry/dolphin operator’s website is useful: www.hellenicseaways.gr (Hellenic seaways) – you can even book tickets online.
Thessaloniki: You can get cheap charter flights from many UK airports to this northern Greek city and then a bus to Volos and then a fast FlyingCat service from the port that travels to Alonissos via Skiathos. Call Alkyon Travel to book this.
Volos: There are charter and cheap flights to this new destination. From Volos there are boats to Alonissos.
TRAVEL TO ALONISSOS
From Skiathos you can take the Flying Dolphin (hydrofoil), which takes one and a half hours, depending on stops, and costs about 27 Euros return or the ferry (2-3 hrs) or the new FlyingCat service which is very fast (1 hr). You can also take all these from Ag.Konstantinos.
FLIGHT BOOKING
To book flights try the usual internet sites and flight bookers or contact your local travel agent. Try dialaflight.com 0870 900 2303. They have very good prices and can even book the ongoing domestic flights from Athens. Ongoing travel by dolphin or FlyingCat can be booked on arrival at the ports or via Alkyon Travel or www.hellenicseaways.gr
ACCOMMODATION
Most people stay in the local rooms which are situated around the main bays near the port. There are a couple of good hotels in the port (ask the agent below) and villas are also available. At most times of the year there is no need to book rooms ahead. They can be easily arranged on arrival. However if you do wish to book ahead either contact Andrew Ward (see below) who can advise or for hotels/villas: Alonissos Travel tel:0030 424066000 fax:0030 424065511 or to book a simple room with bathroom at Roussoum Bay contact Yiannis at: info@ethra.gr website: www.ethra.gr Tel: 0030 242 4065011. He speaks English and will find you a nice room.

The rate in June/July is usually around £25 per night ( 28 euros) for twin en suite room, with sea views, and kitchen facilities. Roussoum bay or Votsi are recommended.

Useful websites: www.alonissos.com and www.alonissos.gr. These contain details of the island, accomodation, travel arrangements, agents and links to boat timetables etc.
